TeleVue NP127 / Celestron CGE
127mm (5") Apochromatic Refractor. Incredible wide field views in a large, optically fast telescope. Unusually lightweight for its size. Has, with a Borg 76ed guidescope (not shown), become my backyard workhorse for astrophotography. Designed by Al Nagler. Visit the TeleVue website
Stellarvue SV4 / Losmandy GM-8
102mm (4") Apochromatic Refractor. Great wide field views in a portable, optically fast telescope. It, combined with a Losmandy GM-8 mount, and a Borg 65mm guidescope is my portable astrophotography setup. A bit heavier than some short tube 'scopes, but Vic Maris builds them to last! Vic is very accessible and frequently visits the Stellarvue Yahoo group. Visit the Stellarvue website
Stellarvue Nighthawk
Great small telescope. Objective diameter is 78mm and it is an achromat so there is some color fringing on bright objects. Razor sharp on the moon and planetary objects.
Unitron Refractor
Classic long focal length refractor. Objective diameter is 75mm (3") and it is an achromat so there is some color fringing on bright objects. Razor sharp on the moon and planetary objects, but dimmer than modern refractors.
Celestron 9.25" Schmidt-Cassegrain Reflector
Compact reflector. Mirror diameter is 9.25" and my primary planetary instrument. The Celestron dominates on planets with a webcam and stacking software. It rides on a Celestron CGE mount. The CGE is an excellent mount that is often overlooked. Like most production mounts your mileage may vary, but it is a nice step up from many chinese manufactured mounts and is frequently discounted.
